The Simple "Bear" Necessities of Life!

It all started when I first saw the trailer for this movie, and I was like, "Woah! I gotta watch that!" And so I did get to end up watching it last night! *insert drum-roll sounds*

So yeah, maybe you didn't expect that or maybe you did (cuz' of the blog title and everything...), but this movie was so epic! Don't believe me? Here's the full trailer:

Honestly, I wasn't much of a fan of the Disney animation one either, but after watching that? Disney's probably working it's magic again. 

Do you believe in fairies? Do you? Do you?

I'll be basing my review not just from the obvious "eye-full" of CGI effects, but I also think the writers provided more depth into the storyline by giving us a hint of Mowgli's (Neel Sethi) origins and how Bagheera (Ben Kingsley) came to find him. They also didn't take away the enjoyable soundtracks we enjoyed from the original Disney animation, so that's a plus on my books. Although a word of warning on some parts of the movie that got me jumping from my seat a little bit in shock, and also the fact that Shere Khan (Idris Elba) here isn't as sophisticated nor comical compared to the Disney animation we remembered as kids. Oh no, he's as fierce and blood-thirsty as any Bengal tiger should be. (... and I think that made the movie all the better...)

This is getting better and better...

Aside from having a darker take compared to the Disney animation, I don't think I can find much fault on the movie really. Cuz' if you think about it, the original kids who've probably got to watch the animation, both in cinemas or on their VHS tapes (which are practically obsolete), could probably well have kids of their own. And let's face it, kids these days wouldn't mind a little violence here and there in movies. (just think about all those zombie movies...) So I guess, you can't blame Disney if they have to go with the times afterall, the world is changing.

As a closing event to my last college semester, we recently held an Awards Night last 19th of March, 2016 at the Manila Hotel. But since my blog is following a schedule, I opted to release this post today instead.

Taking Gaming To Another Experience

With the recent conclusion of a trilogy in my "Game Reviews" section, I decided to take it up a notch with a whole new blog experience! In my immersion, I'm here to introduce Roc On Sky's 9D VR Experience!

It's now open here at the 3rd Floor of Lucky Chinatown Mall, and take note, they have an ongoing promo! I don't know till when they'll be here, so you gotta check it out as soon as you can!

If the price is right...

As for me, I've already tried 8 of the 9D experience so far, and they range from 2-10 minutes depending on the specific "game" you choose. Some were downright boring, others cool, and only a couple were really awesome.

Personally reviewing my 8 VR experiences, I'd say the Eagle Simulation was the best! It made you really feel like you were flying around this snowy landscape! I think I got it on video here alongside the Dark Roller Coaster one which comes second best.

It wasn't really that "dark" though...

The third best would be Evil Abyss a.k.a. The House from Hell, though I don't think it was really all that scary but kudos to the storyline.

Not much "jumpscares" here...

Fourth would be the Racing game since I've got a soft spot for those kinds of genres, plus it was futuristic and really immersive! 

Got a lot to choose from!

With that said, I guess the Pyramid of the Abyss comes fifth since it was close to that kind of type too.

Mind the spikes!

The sixth one would be this Vampire game which would have had potential had it been in 1st person, but it ended up like some kind of short animation.

The last two was like your ordinary amusement park ride with the Dinosaur Roller Coaster being a disappointment for me, since I personally think the Universal Studios' Jurassic Rapids provided more entertainment than this. And don't get me started on the 360 Ride! It just gave me a headache!

No words can express...

But in the end, let's face it, the whole experience was new and fun for me so I guess the day wasn't all gloom and doom. Maybe you should give the 9D VR Experience a try too!

The "Dark" Games Continues...

With all that's been happening in my life recently, I can't help but look for distractions in my life, just to escape reality or better to prevent insanity.

Aside from books, I've recently discovered games. And these aren't the free trial versions anymore too, because I have serendipitously discovered the world of torrent downloads. Whoo!

By continuing the Game Reviews part of my blog, I'll therefore be concluding a game series that I've initially started on in the past years. If you've been following my past blogs then you have probably heard of "Twisted Lands". Now we're in the 3rd part of the game titled, "Twisted Lands: Origin".

Don't mind the ghost...

Compared to the first two games that were released in this series, this had more of a backgrounder on how "Twisted Lands" became what it is.

Basically, the timeline takes place before the events of the first two games. So if you've tried to play them, you'll see some familiar hidden object scenes that have more of a "new" feel to it since it does take place years before the first game.

To wrap this post up, "Twisted Lands: Origin" does end up tying all the loose ends and unanswered questions from the start of the game series. By playing this conclusion, you'll get to find out how the "epidemic" in the island did take place.

All in all, it was one hell of a series! Maybe in the future I'll get to blog another adventure-filled hidden object game series, but for now I'm wishing for more time from reality to be able to feed this gaming addiction!

Life As We (Don't) Know It...

It has been at least 6 months since my last blog post and life is as constant as change. I'll be graduating in at least a month's time and I'm still at a crossroads on what to do with my life. 

It's a big world out there... O.O

I'm actually just posting this blog in a daze; for lack of a proper output of my scattered thoughts... 

On a recent note, I'm typing this post a few days in advance and hopefully I've made it home safely from my school's International Tour to Singapore! 

Though we were originally planning on an earlier, due to tardiness and maybe lack of proper time management, it all seemed crammed into whatever schedule they could fit us in. 

In the end, you can't stop change. It's the only thing that's constant in life. Though someone should have warned me about how erratic that change can be.

P.S. It's as erratic as it comes.

Now that I'm feeling philosophical, maybe I should try posting more blogs in advance? Or maybe once I get my head out of the clouds, I'll be able to post more "tangible" blogs? One can only ponder, while my mind is still fleeting from whatever thoughts I've been dwelling on.

A Day With Books (And Other Things That Make You Happy)

T'was the night after my visit to The 36th Manila International Book Fair.

Because you always need Entrance Tickets to an event...

As a backgrounder, this is actually my 3rd time to go to MIBF, with the 1st happening way before the SMX Convention Center was even built since it was held at SM Megamall. The 2nd time was last year in which I found the greatest answers to my Law subject problems, (courtesy of REX Bookstore). And so for this year, I'm back and more than ready on what to expect.

Like everyone else: My Book Haul! ;)

Aside from surviving the throngs of people and having the patience of a monk when falling in line, I'd say the whole MIBF experience hasn't lost its appeal to me yet. (So watch out for next year, MIBF!)

Add the fact that I also managed to attend a Mini Comics Festival courtesy of Black Ink Comics!

For those who haven't heard of it yet, Black Ink Comics is an independent publisher of local "manga" or comics.

Though part of me guiltily admits that I first bought it for the wonderful cover; before I managed to read the synopsis which further piqued my interest. With that said, I'm really amazed with how far they've gone and look forward to more works from them!

Now back to the Mini Comics Festival, it was a (mini) meet and greet event with the talented artists and writers of Black Ink, in which I grabbed the opportunity to have most of my comic books and novels signed!

SPY: Do You Have What It Takes?

Hey there folks! It's been a long while since I felt the need to blog about a movie this awesome and hilarious!

In cinemas!!! >.<

Watching this movie started out as a joke when my mom and I happened to see the trailer earlier this year in the cinemas. I remember how I was like, "Pssssst... mom, this is the movie for you."

Moving on to the review, the title of the movie speaks for itself when Susan Cooper (Melissa McCarthy), the "brains" behind the spies, volunteers herself when her partner, Bradley Fine (Jude Law) dies on the mission. She subsequently finds out that all the CIA agents' identities have been leaked, making the agency vulnerable and at a stand-still on who to deploy for the next mission concerning a nuclear weapon. As it turns out, Operation: Track and Report will give Agent Cooper a chance to prove herself.

Storywise, the plot is easy to catch up with while it gives the audience a healthy dose of both "I'm-holding-my-breath" kind of action and "I'm-losing-my-breath-can't-stop-laughing" comedy.

Though I'd like to point out that the film is rated R-13 since it's filled with swear words, sexual innuendos, and lots of blood. I also don't like the parts when they'd bully her in the premise or make her (and some of the people from the "basement") feel inferior. Maybe it was intended to come across as a form of comedy, but bullying is still bullying. So I'm glad with how she managed to develop and grow as a character, it's actually empowering.

Two other things, that kept me ogling at the screen was Rose Byrne, who plays Rayna Boyanov, who I wouldn't really consider as the "real" antagonist, but the story does mostly revolve around her, and I'm not complaining.

Last one is, unexpectedly, Jude Law!

Hearing fangirl squeals, with some fainting... O.O

Don't get me wrong, I only said "unexpectedly" 'cuz I always somehow pictured Jude Law as someone "dorky"...?

Add the fact that ever since he voiced Pitch Black from Dreamworks' Rise of the Guardians.... Well let's just say...

I'ma runnin' for my life now!

Yeah... Wasn't really keen on seeing him until...

My, my, Bradley Fine, what a "fine" man you are indeed... *insert wiggling of brows*

On another note, Rick Ford (Jason Statham) was honestly an annoying character, and I wasn't used to seeing Statham as such 'cuz, duh! Transporter!

I know right! ;)))

Though you gotta hand it to how game he was in playing the role, so kudos to you bro, and your exaggerated mission spiels!

Also hope this wouldn't be the last time we see Melissa McCarthy in an action movie. (Petition for a sequel perhaps?)

So to wrap it up, "Spy" was a very enjoyable weekend movie to watch, though not exactly family-friendly since it's not for kids. So why not make it a movie night with your special (agent) someone, right?
